Continuity Editing Exercise

The aim of this task was to create and shoot a scenario which included a few basic points..

'A character opens a door, crosses a room and sits down in a chair opposite another character, with whom he/she then exchanges a couple of lines of dialogue.'

In this task, the key media skills I was trying to demonstrate in particular included shot reverse shot, match on action, 180 degree rule and the rule of thirds.

180 Degree Rule:                                                                          Rule of Thirds:

In this task I worked with a pupil in my class called Ellie. I quite enjoyed this arrangement mainly due to the fact that I was pleased with how enthusiastic she was towards this task considering she has never studied media before and asked for help whenever she needed it.
For this scenario, I really wanted to do something different to everyone else in the class, and to those I had seen examples of, so we both decided on a scenario together but once the storyboard was drawn and it came to filming we had to be slightly more realistic and change the idea slightly in order to get the shots that we wanted; this meant tweaking the storyboard shots slightly.
